In the sonnets â€Å"Hawk Roosting† and â€Å"Golden Retrievals,† Ted Hughes and Mark Doty, separately, depict contrasting perspectives on the world from the points of view of two unique creatures. Hughes delineates a falcon as transcendent, sly, and figuring in its activities and thought processes; while Doty passes on the creature point of view through a brilliant recovery portrayed as cheerful and upbeat. Through usage of beautiful gadgets, the two creators offer differentiating portrayals of the two creatures and particular points of view of the world. Through utilization of beautiful gadgets, Hughes and Doty, separately, portray the falcon and the brilliant recovery in various lights to eventually uncover the creatures' perspectives on themselves. Hughes’ sonnet, the â€Å"Hawk Roosting,† highlights a self-fixated and requesting Hawk. The creator describes the falcon using first individual perspective. The utilization of individual pronouns â€Å"mine,† â€Å"my,† and â€Å"I† promotes the author’s point that the Hawk accepts the world spins around it and only it. It appears to be unaware of the significance of it's general surroundings. It assumes the situation of a lord; the bird of prey manages everything. Besides, the Hawk never appears to make reference to some other living animal. Undoubtedly, every other animal is altogether immaterial and has no spot on the planet. Additionally, the falcon considers itself to be a God-like animal. The bird of prey may â€Å"kill where [it pleases] † and in the most abhorrent â€Å"manner,...tearing off heads.† The falcon appears to have announced itself soul harvester now in the sonnet. The bird of prey has nobody to reply to and in this way does and designs in like manner. It nearly gloats to the crowd about its one of a kind capacity of executing different animals in the most ruthless manner conceivable; it appreciates the violence of... ...ife, exhibiting that people additionally figure and efficiently plan for the future, all in all attempting to be the most elite consistently much like the bird of prey. Hughes’ methodical falcon makes Doty’s brilliant recovery appear to be a lot of lost and occupied as every day passes. The bird of prey might want just to fly alone and direct the universe, while the pooch essentially goes with his lord as simply a buddy. The bird of prey perceives his general surroundings with an insensitive disdain and conscious methodology for the future while the canine embraces current circumstances and focuses on the little, however important things throughout everyday life. The two creatures live their lives contrastingly and separately as people do. The usage of an animal’s perspective is cultivated totally in the two sonnets as the writers associate the animals’ points of view to that of humankind.

A little girl inspects a rock; she licks salt from its edges. Click. Another child tests her dress to see how far it will balloon when she spins in circles. Click. A boy navigates a rock wall; he lifts one leg in the air to maintain balance. Click. These are the moments my camera helps me find. These are the images I freeze in time. Photographing children as they explore the world has been my vocation for the past five years. I grew my portrait photography business out of the two great passions in my life: children and photography. Taking successful images requires patience and persistence, which I count among my attributes. Each time I pick up my camera, I strive to bring out my subjects personality. Sometimes I pose the right question; other times I point out something that captures the childs interest. No two children are alike, therefore the results I obtain are always fresh and interesting. I find the same principle holds true in the classroom. I participated in my daughters classrooms from preschool through first grade, which was hugely gratifying. During journal writing exercises, I coaxed the kids towards fertile ideas, then watched them develop these ideas in their own way. While reading, I asked the kids to imagine they were one of the main characters. I posed open-ended questions that the children could interpret and answer as they saw fit. During my field study placement, I hope to learn tools that will complement my natural ability to interact meaningfully with children. I also look forward to the opportunity to work within a classroom curriculum beyond first grade. In the classroom setting, I will bring patience and energy to each student. By example, I will show students that it is our essential nature to explore, examine and create. I believe I can excite and inspire them; most of all, I hope to ultimately persuade my students that learning is its own reward as well as an invaluable life skill that will bring them enjoyment, confidence and recognition.

Reconstruction Era - 1650 Words

Reconstruction 1 The Reconstruction Era Jessica Onken American History Since 1865 Professor Tim Johnston August 2, 2010 Reconstruction 2 The Reconstruction Era The reconstruction era was a difficult time for the African American slaves from 1865 to 1877 because the slaves were freed and there were no jobs for them, had very little or no education, and had very limited opportunity in the south. Reconstruction was one of the most critical periods in American History. The Civil War changed the nation tremendously, and most importantly by bringing an end to slavery. The 15th amendment was ratified in 1870, providing a constitutional guarantee of voting rights for African American males. By 1870, the Northerner lost interest in reconstructing the south. The north tried to reconstruct the south and change sou therners attitudes about black people. Although they failed at this because many southerners were still racists and believed that the white race was superior to others, blacks were not as good as southern white men. To add to that, the Northerners lost interest in the reconstruction, which gave southerners a chance to gain control of their state governments again. The main complaints against the Presidential Reconstruction were the Radical Republicans of Congress. New political forces in the South gave way for new changes. During reconstruction, African Americans made huge political gains. They voted in large numbers and were also elected to political office. African Americans were elected as sheriffs, mayors, legislators, Congressmen, and Senators. Even thought their participation was significant, it was exaggerated by white southerners angry at the Black Republicans governments.Show MoreRelatedReconstruction Of The Reconstruction Era1587 Words   |  7 PagesThe Reconstru ction Era was known as a time to reconstruct the United States of America by the expansion of governmental power that began in 1865. â€Å"There were two central problems that animated Reconstruction; providing justice for freedmen and facilitating national reconciliation. Analysis Of Michael Patrick King s The City Franchise

Second edition of Sex in the City franchise by director Michael Patrick King, the girls are settling into their 40’s or in Samantha’s case her 50’s. Each gal is still looking fabulous but needing a break from the doldrums of daily life, they are invited to Abu Dhabi to experience the newest hotel in hopes that Samantha’s PR firm will endorse it. The bulk of the movie follows the ladies on their awkward vacation in the rigid Middle East and the life lessons learned there. Sex in the City 2 misses the mark in its latest attempt at the box office by choosing the location of Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates, scripting a lazy floundering plot line and a movie length that could have been trimmed by more than a few minutes. The first and greatest downfall of this movie is simply the location. Sending the fully liberated girls to Abu Dhabi is just a stupid mistake for two reasons. First, it’s 2010 and America is at war in Afghanistan and Iraq, and so why the writers chose another Muslim country to send their main characters to on a vacation is beyond me. In a time when we have so many of our brothers and sisters fighting in wars in the Middle East, to glorify Abu Dhabi as a vacation location can be considered by many as offensive. Second, if the creators were looking for exotic locations, there are many other places to be found? Paris may not be exotic but it is fashionable and far enough away to be exotic to Holly Housewife who is shelling out the eight dollars to seeShow MoreRelatedFive Guys5261 Words   |  22 PagesCOVER PAGE Group 5 Strategic Management Final Project Report - Five Guys Table of Content Five Guys’ Strategy Analysis - Final Report Industry: Casual-fast restaurant in Canada Company: Five Guys Contact: Michael Oppedisano, from Asst. Church History Essay Example For Students

Church History Essay Christianity BeginsOn a late afternoon, in about the year AD 33, two men were walking from Jerusalem to the nearby village of Emmaus. Their conversation centered on events that had occurred the previous week. As they journeyed, a stranger who seemed ignorant of these events joined them. Surprised, they asked him: Are you the only person staying in Jerusalem not to know what has happened there in the last few days? So they explained to him about a certain Jesus of Nazareth, a prophet powerful in speech and action before God and the whole people. Our chief priests and rulers handed him over to the Roman authorities to be sentenced to death, and they crucified him. But we were hoping that he was the man to liberate Israel. Even more amazing, they went on to say, were reports from some women who visited his tomb that he was alive again, raised from the dead. Suddenly the stranger spoke: How dull-witted you two are! And how slow to believe all that the prophets said. Was not the messiah b ound to suffer thus before entering upon his glory? Then he went on to clarify from the Hebrew scriptures all the passages that referred to himself. For the stranger was Jesus of Nazareth, of whom the two had been speaking. Based on the life, death and coming to life again of Jesus Christ there has developed the worlds largest religion, Christianity. Expectation and RealityThe two men on the road to Emmaus were not simple common folk. They were a selected group of twelve followers, called disciples or learners, of Jesus who had known him for at least three years. During this period they had listened to all he said and had witnessed his amazing actions, such as healing the sick, giving sight to the blind and hearing to the deaf and even bringing people back to life. They had become convinced that he was the Messiah who was to redeem Israel. Israel wanted and expected redemption. This small Jewish nation, located in the eastern part of the Roman Empire, had for centuries looked forward to a time when their God would, through some decisive action, free them from outside oppression and establish Israel as the preeminent nation in the world. The word messiah means the lords anointed, someone God has set aside for a specific task. Christians believe that Jesus, from the small town of Nazareth in Galilee, was that Messiah. They also believe that what he accomplished far exceeded the expectations of Israel. The Jews looked for a messiah exclusively for themselves, though his power and love would be such as to draw Jews and gentiles to a belief in the same God. Christians believe that Jesus, as Gods son, accomplished something that was intended to benefit the whole world. The Man and the MessageWhat Jesus said and did can be learned from the first four books of the Bibles New Testament. These books Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John are called Gospels, a word that means good news, because they are his followers written testimonies of what his life was all about. The Gospels depict a man who was thoroughly inborn with the entire tradition of Israels religion from the time of Abraham onward. From what Jesus said and did his followers came to believe that God was perhaps acting through him in a very special way. Very possibly he was the one long awaited who would inaugurate Gods kingdom on Earth. It was reasonable that they should think this, for they too were Israelites; and they saw in his words and deeds what portended to be the dawning of a new age. What dashed their hopes was his death, crucifixion was a punishment reserved for criminals. Then came the great surprise: He was raised from the dead and appeared to them again over a period of 40 days. How and where to could only be explained as his returning to the God who had sent him. But he did not leave them forever: He promised that he would one day return, and he gave them a mission to perform to carry the message about his life and work to the whole world. The Believers: the ChurchThe small group of Jesus followers that gathered in Jerusalem after his departure did not call themselves anything special, they considered themselves to be Jews. The word Christian came into use years later and was originally a derogatory term used by outsiders. This group of Jews became known as Jews of the Way. During the first decades of the churchs existence several significant events occurred: The assembly of believers separated themselves from the religion of Israel; they formulated an extensive assessment of what the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus meant; the first Christian martyrs died for their beliefs; and new congregations of believers were founded in all parts of the Roman Empire. Jews of the WayThe early Christians were all Jews. They remained in Jerusalem partook of the religious observances in the Temple, and ate according to Jewish dietary laws. They differed from their fellow Jews only in that they believed that the Messiah, Jesus, had come. Had they remained quiet about their conviction, they might well have remained a sect within Judaism. However, they insisted on preaching to all who would listen that Jesus whom the Jewish authorities had persecuted was the one Israel had long awaited. This preaching aroused great hostility on the part of religious leaders and the early Christians were persecuted because of it. A young follower of Jesus, a deacon by the name of Stephen, was stoned to death for preaching that Jesus was the Messiah. The mob of Jews drug him from the city, as they stoned him and as a young Pharisee by the name of Saul watched, Stephen died as a Christian, he died praying for his murders. Yet these Christians had no thought of venturing beyond the confines of Israel with their message. It was only after the joining of a man named Saul of Tarsus that the assembly of believers enlarged its horizons to include the whole known world. From Saul to PaulSaul, a strict Jew and Pharisee, was a persecutor of the church. While riding through the desert he was blinded by a vision from God, and he was converted. Saul made it to Damascus where he met Ananias, who restored his sight and baptized him. After changing his name to Paul, he began what is called the mission to the gentiles. Paul and another follower of Jesus, Barnabas, more than any others, pulled the church out from temple and synagogue and set it apart as a separate institution. But, for Paul, the separation was more than a physical one. It was also a separation of law. Paul wished to extend Gods love to the gentiles. Mission to the gentilesBased in Antioch, Paul and his associates took this message to most of the urban centers of the Mediterranean world. He began baptizing Samaritans in the name of Christ. The Jews thought it bad enough that not pure breed Jews could join the Way, but Paul pushed the envelope by baptizing gentiles who were not circumcised. It was his belief that Christians did not have to become Jews, and that they were not subject to all the rites, rituals, and laws of the Jewish religion. This aroused an intense anger in the Jews of the Way and, finally, led to a separation of the two groups. .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3 , .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3 .postImageUrl , .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3 , .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3:hover , .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3:visited , .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3:active { border:0!important; } .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3:active , .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3 .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ucf391bcd6d655240a4a411151990c5d3:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Macbeth - Ambition EssayThe Christians become the ChristiansThe Jews of the Way believed that if the gentiles ate unkosher food, then they could not share a table of fellowship with the gentile believers of Christ.
